Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport, schools and other institutions across the Indian capital on Sunday received a bomb threat.
This has caused fears among the people and the police have decided to tighten security across the city.
The sender, according to local media, claimed affiliation with a terrorist group named “Terrorise 111” and warned that bombs had been planted, threatening explosions within 24 hours.
Police officials described the email’s content as likely a prank but have launched a full investigation.
The threat email was sent to between 100 and 150 email addresses belonging to various organisations.
Investigations are reportedly ongoing as officials monitor the situation closely.
Meanwhile, the bomb threat at two schools in Delhi, CRPF Public School in Dwarka and Sarvodaya Vidyalaya near Qutub Minar, were declared a hoax by Delhi Fire Services after thorough searches, according to news agency PTI.
“Police teams, fire personnel, and bomb disposal units were promptly deployed to the affected schools to carry out a search operation properly. However, nothing suspicious was found,” the official is quoted.
In a similar incident earlier in the day, a full-scale anti-sabotage operation was carried out at Jammu airport on Sunday after a private airline received a bomb threat via email, officials confirmed.
Security forces, including the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) and local police, conducted a comprehensive search of the premises. The drill was completed without any disruption to air traffic, and no suspicious items were found.
“An email was received by a private airliner this morning, and accordingly, a security drill in such situations was followed to rule out the presence of any explosive substance. The email was a hoax,” an official of the Airport Authority of India said.
INDIA TODAY reports that a police complaint has been filed, and investigations are underway to trace the source of the threatening email.
