Nigeria’s representative in the CAF Confederation Cup, Kwara United, have bowed out of the competition following a narrow 0-1 defeat to Ghanaian giants, Asante Kotoko, in Abeokuta.

The Afonja Warriors, who had already lost the first leg 4-3 in Kumasi, went into the return fixture needing a solid win to book their passage into the round of 32.

But despite creating several clear-cut chances in the opening half, the home side failed to convert, leaving their fans frustrated.

Kotoko came out stronger after the break and were duly rewarded in the 54th minute when Hubert Gyau calmly slotted home what proved to be the decisive strike of the contest.

From then on, Kwara United threw everything forward in search of an equalizer, but their efforts were met with resolute defending by the Ghanaians, ensuring the visitors secured progression at the expense of their Nigerian hosts.

The defeat means Nigeria’s campaign in the competition has suffered an early blow, with Kwara United exiting earlier than expected despite flashes of promise in both legs.
