Violet Mokobi Nyabicha, a student who got admitted into the Rongo University, Kenya, had her educational journey cut short after she passed away just weeks after joining campus.

The 19-year-old was found unconscious in her hostel room before being rushed to the Rongo University clinic.

Her neighbors narrated what transpired prior to her being pronounced dead at the medical facility.

According to the school authorities, Violet met her fate on Friday, September 26.

She had only recently joined the university, where she was pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in Linguistics under the School of Arts, Social Sciences, and Business.

Her neighbor shed light on the last moments of the 19-year-old, who was found unconscious in her room at Paradise Hostel.

“It happened at 9pm. The lady left the house with a bucket, going to pour something that looked like water. We thought maybe it was dirty water after washing utensils or clothes. When she returned to the room, she left her door open. We then heard sounds like a struggle, as though there was a fight. We rushed in and found she was struggling to breathe and seemed unconscious,” Mokobi’s neighbor is quoted by K Tuko.

The neighbor also said there was a strong smell inside the room and suspected a possible gas leak.

Buckets of water had been kicked over, leaving the floor wet, yet Mokobi was said to be all alone.

She was lying on the bed with her head hanging off the edge, according to the witness.

Another neighbour reported that a piece of evidence was found at the scene, a handwritten note left on her table.

The neighbour was quoted to have narrated thus: “I went to the table and found a book. Looking at it closely, I saw she had written a note. She said if anything happened to her, there was a person to blame. ‘Please, please, please. He is the cause.’ That is what she had written.”

She was immediately rushed to the university clinic for urgent medical assistance but didn’t survive, as doctors on duty pronounced her dead on arrival.

Investigations to unravel the mystery behind her unfortunate death have been launched by authorities.
