Police intercept N82.7m intoxicants, arrest one in Kano

A 19-year-old Usman Umar is providing more information to the police in Kano on the illegal trade and movement of large quantities of Tramadol and Pregabalin intoxicants intercepted and recovered by a police team attached to Kano state Police Command.
The Police detectives, armed with credible information, had trailed a vehicle to a house in the Rimin Auzinawa Quarters, Kano, where a thorough search revealed trade of illicit drugs and dangerous intoxicants being stored in the house.
The Kano state police Command spokesperson, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, said useful information by members of the public led to the successful operation.
According to him, the team of Police men who trailed the moving vehicle suspected to be carrying intoxicants, cordoned off the house where the vehicle was parked and successfully arrested one Usman Umar, a resident of the house.
A thorough search of the premises led to the recovery of 603 packets of suspected Tramadol tablets, containing 60,300 pieces, valued at N60,300,000.
Also recovered from the house were 299 packets of suspected Pregabalin capsules, consisting of 44,850 pieces, valued at N22,425,000.
The total estimated value of the intercepted intoxicants stood at N82,725,000
Kiyawa added that: “In line with the directives of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, to all Police commands and formations to intensify robust intelligence-led and community-centric policing initiatives, the Kano State Police Command, under the leadership of CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, recorded a significant breakthrough in its fight against the trafficking and distribution of illicit drugs.
“Thanks to the dedication of the Officers and Men of the Command, and the unwavering support of the good people of Kano State.”
According to Kiyawa: “This successful operation highlights the command’s commitment to eradicating the menace of drug abuse and trafficking in Kano State. The suspect is currently helping investigation to uncover the network behind this illegal trade and bring all culprits to justice.”
The state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, commended the vigilance and cooperation of the good people of Kano State, whose timely information was instrumental in the success of the operation.
He also reiterated the command’s dedication to ensuring the safety and well-being of all residents.
Bakori urged the public to continue providing credible information to the police, assuring them of prompt action and confidentiality.
“Together, we can build a safer and drug-free Kano State,” Bakori added.
