We’re on strike but fuel will keep flowing – PENGASSAN

“There will be no disruption in the supply of petrol due to our strike. We have enough fuel in our tanks to last over 30 days,” Osifo stated.

The Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) has assured the public that there will be no disruption to the supply of petrol, despite its  strike.

The union announced it would commence industrial action on Monday in protest against the alleged dismissal of 800 workers by the Dangote Refinery and Petrochemicals.

A report by the The Nation said PENGASSAN President Festus Osifo, while speaking on a national television programme monitored in Abuja, clarified that the strike would not affect petrol availability.

“There will be no disruption in the supply of petrol due to our strike. We have enough fuel in our tanks to last over 30 days,” Osifo stated.

He emphasised that if any fuel scarcity occurs, Nigerians should hold the Dangote Refinery responsible, not the union.

“Our members do not control tanker drivers. If there is any disruption in supply, it is the responsibility of Dangote and his refinery,” he added.

Osifo went further, accusing Aliko Dangote of economic sabotage.

“Dangote is the greatest saboteur of the Nigerian economy. He and his associates must be held accountable for their actions. If he reinstates the sacked workers today, we will call off the strike immediately,” he said.

The union president also revealed that PENGASSAN would be cutting supply specifically to the Dangote Refinery, but not to other sectors unless safety demands it.

“Our members are withdrawing their services from Dangote. We are not affecting other facilities for now,” he said.

He confirmed that the union had been invited to a meeting at the Federal Ministry of Labour and would attend.

Osifo urged President Bola Tinubu to intervene.

“The President must call Dangote to order. No individual is above the law or the constitution,” he concluded.
