The Federal Government says Nigeria is moving in the right direction under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the country celebrates 65 years of independence.

The Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, and the Minister of Information, Mohammed Idris, said this during a World Press Conference in Abuja on Monday.

Akume explained that Independence Day is not just for celebration but for reflection.

He noted that since 1960, Nigeria has faced challenges and successes, yet the spirit of the people has remained strong.
“Independence Day is a time to think about how far we have come as a nation.

Our journey has had difficulties and victories, but Nigerians remain united and hopeful,” he said.
Minister Idris added that recent improvements in the economy show progress.

He highlighted lower inflation (now at 21.12 per cent), falling food prices, a stable Naira, and rising external reserves as proof.

He also pointed to increased oil production, higher revenue for states, and other reforms as results of Tinubu’s leadership.

“In the last 65 years, Nigeria has seen great political and economic growth,” Idris said.

He stressed that President Tinubu has removed barriers to Nigeria’s progress and is setting the foundation for peace, unity, and prosperity.

The minister urged Nigerians to continue supporting the president’s “Renewed Hope” agenda.

This year’s Independence Day theme is: “Nigeria at 65: All Hands on Deck for a Greater Nation.”
