Atiku: I’ll support any youth who beats me to 2027 ticket

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar says he is ready to rally behind a younger aspirant if he is beaten to the 2027 presidential ticket of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Speaking to BBC Hausa, Atiku stressed that the ADC is a party that gives priority to youths and women.

“If I run for office and a young man defeats me, I will accept it. I will even support and mentor him,” Atiku said.

On whether he will contest again, Atiku kept things open:
“This is only the beginning. Our priority is to build the party and gain a strong following,” he noted.

The former PDP flagbearer accused the ruling APC of planting moles to destabilise opposition parties, saying the deep crisis in PDP forced him out.

“The APC government has decided to use some party leaders to frustrate the opposition. Sadly, the PDP leadership ignored my advice, so I left,” he explained.

Atiku dismissed talks that he could later dump ADC:
“No, I’m not known for that. If I say I’m here, then I’m here. I am a man of one Qibla,” he said.
