Super Eagles vs Benin: Starting XI revealed, fresh twist up front

Nigeria’s Super Eagles head coach, Eric Chelle, has announced his starting eleven for the decisive 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against the Cheetahs of Benin Republic in Uyo.

Akor Adams gets his first-ever start for the national team, joining Victor Osimhen in attack as the Eagles look to secure maximum points in the must-win encounter.

Samuel Chukwueze also returns to the starting line-up, adding pace and creativity to the flanks after missing the last game through fitness concerns.

In defence, Zaidu Sanusi replaces Bruno Onyemaechi at left-back, while captain William Troost-Ekong starts from the bench — a bold tactical move by Chelle aimed at injecting more speed and flexibility into the backline.

The midfield trio of Wilfred Ndidi, Alex Iwobi, and Frank Onyeka will be tasked with controlling possession and dictating play, while Calvin Bassey anchors the defence alongside Semi Ajayi.

Nigeria, who sit third in Group C with 14 points, must win the clash to keep their World Cup qualification hopes alive.
