Nollywood actress and filmmaker Iyabo Ojo has publicly confronted an alleged impersonator on Facebook, accusing the individual of using her name and picture to run a blog that boasts 2.7 million followers.
In a video shared on her Instagram page, the actress stated that the impersonator has been spreading false news, posting stories in her name, and profiting from the account, while misleading her fans into thinking the page belongs to her.
“This video is directed to whoever it is that is impersonating me and using my name. It has 2.7 million followers on Facebook,” Ojo said. “I have tried to report this account to Facebook. The person went and changed it to Iyabo Ojo Lovers, so at the time, Facebook thought it was my fan page. This is not my page. I don’t know who owns it, and I don’t know who created it.”
The actress explained that the impersonator’s activities have been ongoing for a long time, but her concern intensified when she realized that many people were attributing the page’s content to her. “A lot of people think I own the page. That’s why I joined Facebook myself, to report pages like this,” she said.
Ojo went on to issue a stern warning to the impersonator, demanding that her name and image be removed from the page immediately. “Take my name off this page and my picture. Take it off. Because the next time you will look for this page, it will be gone. I’m not capping with you,” she said.
She also condemned the impersonator for capitalizing on her fame. “You’ve used my name to gather 2.7 million followers. If you know you want to be a blogger, don’t be greedy. Create your own identity now,” Ojo added.
The actress highlighted the wider problem of impersonation on social media, noting that many accounts falsely use her name on platforms including Facebook and TikTok. She said these accounts not only mislead fans but also harm her credibility and brand. “Everything I post on my page, you go and post on this page. You are definitely monitoring me,” she said.
Ojo urged the impersonator to stop using her identity to spread false information and make money illegally. “Why are you using my name to be blogging? Making people feel like I’m a blogger. And it’s not funny anymore because you put my pictures there and you blog, you carry different news. It’s madness,” she said.
The actress also warned others against similar behavior, stressing that impersonation is not just misleading but also disrespectful. “I know there are a lot of people impersonating me on Facebook, on TikTok, everywhere. But this particular one has been verified and has a lot of followers. Every day I keep getting messages in my DMs like, ‘Did you write this? Did you post this?’” she said.
