South African Grammy award-winning DJ and record producer, Nkosinathi Innocent Maphumulo, popularly known as Black Coffee, has made a declaration that he has no plans to remarry, stating that he will no longer allow societal expectations to dictate his personal life.
The father of four made the revelation during his appearance on the popular Podcast and Chill show, where he spoke about his past marriage, pressure from family, and his new perspective on life and relationships.
“I won’t get married again. I’m clear about that because I am now in a better space in understanding who I am. I also understand the kind of pressure society puts you in without ever backing you up,” he said.
Black Coffee disclosed that following his rise to fame, his parents began mounting pressure on him to settle down because of his success and wealth.
“With my career, especially because it wasn’t so obvious… it wasn’t like I was going to get a degree and become a lawyer. It was unclear, but as soon as it popped, everyone was wowed. I bought my first house and car, and they [my parents] were like, ‘When are you getting a wife?’”
He explained that over time, he came to realize that such pressures were not in line with his personal happiness or purpose, and remaining unmarried is a decision he is making intentionally for his peace and growth.
Black Coffee was previously married to South African actress Enhle Mbali Mlotshwa. The couple, who tied the knot in 2011, divorced in 2019 following an alleged infidelity scandal involving the DJ and a local model.
Their union produced two children, while the music star has two others from previous relationships.
