Cristiano Ronaldo Jr earns first Portugal U-16 team call-up

Quick Read

Cristiano Ronaldo’s son, Cristiano Ronaldo Jr, has been called up to Portugal’s Under-16 national team for the first time after impressing with strong performances in Saudi Arabia.

Cristiano Ronaldo’s son, Cristiano Ronaldo Jr, has been called up to Portugal’s Under-16 national team for the first time after impressing with strong performances in Saudi Arabia.

The 15-year-old, who currently plays for Al-Nassr’s youth side alongside his father, was included in a 22-man squad for the upcoming Federations Cup Tournament, where Portugal will face Turkey, Wales, and England from October 30 to November 4.

Ronaldo Jr’s latest achievement comes just months after he featured for Portugal’s U-15 team in May, a development that has reignited talks of him possibly sharing the pitch with his famous father someday. However, that seems unlikely, as Ronaldo Sr will turn 41 in February.

Still, the Portuguese superstar continues to defy time. Just last week, he scored twice against Hungary to become the all-time leading scorer in World Cup qualifying history, taking his career tally to 949 goals.

Known as Cristianinho in Portugal, the younger Ronaldo has followed closely in his father’s footsteps. He wears the iconic No. 7 jersey and plays as a left winger, the same position his dad made famous. He has also passed through the youth academies of Juventus and Manchester United, both former clubs of his father.

Earlier this year, Ronaldo Jr featured in a 4–1 win over Japan with the U-15 team, where his grandmother, Dolores Aveiro, watched proudly from the stands. Scouts from Manchester United and other top European clubs were also present.

His father, Cristiano Ronaldo, took to Instagram to celebrate the milestone, writing: “Congratulations on your debut for Portugal, son. Very proud of you.”
