The police, on Thursday, charged a 30-year-old man, Oke Sherif, before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court, for allegedly stealing a motorcycle.

The defendant, whose address is unknown, is standing trial on charges of stealing. He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The prosecutor, Insp Elijah Adejare, told the court that the defendant and others at large, committed the offence on Oct. 3, at about 08:30 p.m. at the Adehun Area of Ado-Ekiti.

He alleged that the defendant stole a Bajaj Boxer motorcycle belonging to one Goodies Ride. The motorcycle is valued at N2.3 million. He alleged that the defendant was eventually apprehended following police investigations

The offence contravenes the provisions of section 295 and 302 (1) of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021. The prosecutor, urged the court to adjourn the case to enable him study the case file and assemble his witnesses for trial.

Meanwhile, defense counsel, Mr Olawumi Olowolafe, urged the court to grant the defendant bail on liberal terms, adding that he will not jump bail.

The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Kehinde Awosika,, consequently, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N400,000 with one surety in like sum. She adjourned the case until Nov 17 for hearing.
