The National Leader of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), Senator Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso, has strongly dismissed insinuations that he takes decisions of governance for Kano state Governor, Engr. Abba Kabir Yusuf.

Kwankwaso who spoke to BBC Hausa during his 69th birthday celebrations, punctured rumours making the rounds that he dictates issues concerning the government and governance to Governor Yusuf, who some political pundits view as his god-son.

The 2023 presidential candidate of the NNPP, rather expressed full confidence in the ability of Governor Yusuf to govern Kano state effectively, going by his background as a former Commissioner of Works and retired civil servant in the state.

Senator Kwankwaso also denounced insinuations of a smoldering rift between him and Governor Yusuf, insisting that he accords the Governor due respect as the number one citizen of the state.

“There is no problem between me and Governor Abba. We gave him the chance to perform, and he is doing his best. Those claiming that I control contracts or run the government are only being mischievous,” Senator Kwankwaso said.

The former Governor of Kano state also maintained that Kwankwasiyya Movement and the NNPP has robust political fortunes ahead of the 2027 elections, while insisting that those who are exiting the Kwankwasiyya Movement and the NNPP will regret their actions in 2027 polls.

He said: “If anyone thinks he can leave us and still win an election in Kano, he is only deceiving himself. Our political project will continue to take action against betrayal.”
