Jacob Murphy opened the scoring for Newcastle in the first half with a confident finish after a flowing move. Fulham responded well, keeping pressure on the hosts as Emile Smith Rowe tested Nick Pope with a low drive before the break.
At half-time, Newcastle led 1-0, but Fulham stayed in the game.

Marco Silva’s men came out strong in the second half, bringing on club-record signing Kevin to replace Smith Rowe, but Newcastle remained dangerous on the break.
Despite their dominance in possession, Newcastle struggled to kill the game off. Fulham even had a late chance through Ryan Sessegnon, but his miscued cross flew into Row Z.
Just as the game seemed headed for a draw, Guimaraes pounced in the 90th minute. After William Osula’s shot was parried by Bernd Leno, the Brazilian reacted quickest to slot home the rebound.
Michael Carrick, watching for Match of the Day, praised Newcastle’s composure and young striker Nick Woltemade’s link-up play:
“Woltemade reminds me of Teddy Sheringham clever, good in the box, and brilliant at linking others into play.”
The victory lifts Newcastle closer to the European places, while Fulham leave Tyneside empty-handed despite a spirited display.
