A 55-year-old man who fell into an underground drainage channel along Ikorodu Road, near Idiroko Bus Stop inward Maryland, has been rescued alive by operatives of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service.

The agency said it received a distress call around 12:24 p.m. on Saturday, prompting firefighters from the Ilupeju Fire Station to rush to the scene.

According to the Director of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Margaret Adeseye, the rescue team arrived at about 12:45 p.m. and immediately began a coordinated operation using specialised equipment.

“On arrival, our personnel discovered that a male adult had accidentally fallen into a manhole. The firefighters promptly initiated a rescue operation using confined-space techniques to ensure the man’s safe recovery,” Adeseye said.

After several hours of effort, the man was pulled out alive and handed over to officers from the Anthony Police Division for further action.

The rescue operation was concluded and the scene secured by 3:41 p.m.

Adeseye reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to protecting lives and property across Lagos, saying the fire service remains dedicated to swift and professional emergency response.
