Police officers in Warsaw’s Srodmiescie district have dismantled what they described as a family-run drug business operated by a 58-year-old Nigerian man and his 54-year-old Polish wife.
The couple was arrested after officers caught the man red-handed selling drugs near Aleja Solidarności. The deal was interrupted when plainclothes officers moved in, apprehending the suspect and a 20-year-old Turkish buyer.
According to police reports, several portions of marijuana ready for sale were found on the Nigerian suspect, while the Turkish man was found with a single portion of the substance. During the arrest, the dealer tried to run but was quickly caught and handcuffed after a brief chase.
Detectives later traced the suspect’s home address, where they found his Polish wife. A search of the apartment led to the discovery of nearly 2 kilograms of marijuana, drug-packaging materials, and over half a million zlotys believed to be proceeds from drug sales.
Investigators say both husband and wife were deeply involved in the illegal operation, describing it as a “family business built on drug money.”
Following their arrest, the Warsaw Srodmiescie-North District Prosecutor’s Office requested that the couple be held in temporary custody, a request that the court approved. They are now facing charges of drug possession and trafficking, crimes that carry penalties of up to 10 years in prison.
The 20-year-old Turkish citizen is facing a separate criminal proceeding.
Police praised the quick response and teamwork of their intelligence and patrol units, saying the operation reflects their ongoing commitment to fighting drug-related crimes in the heart of Warsaw.
