President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, on Monday, held a strategic meeting with the newly appointed service chiefs at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, marking the beginning of what many see as a renewed effort to fortify Nigeria’s security architecture.

The closed-door meeting comes just days after the President announced a sweeping reshuffle of the nation’s military leadership.

The move, according to the Presidency, is aimed at reinvigorating the fight against terrorism, banditry, and other forms of insecurity across the country.

Under the new arrangement, General Olufemi Oluyede, who previously served as the Chief of Army Staff, has been elevated to the position of Chief of Defence Staff, succeeding General Christopher Musa.

The appointments also include new heads for the Army, Navy, and Air Force, as well as the Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA), signalling a complete overhaul of the nation’s defence leadership structure.

Speaking on the development, a senior security aide at the Villa hinted that President Tinubu used the meeting to outline his administration’s expectations and the urgent need for synergy among the armed forces.

“The President emphasized coordination, intelligence sharing, and a people-centred approach to national security,” the aide disclosed.

Security experts have welcomed the reshuffle as a timely intervention, given the persistent threats facing the nation.

Prominent analyst Bulama Bukarti described the changes as “a crucial step toward restoring confidence in Nigeria’s security system,” urging the new commanders to focus on results rather than rhetoric.

The meeting is expected to be the first in a series of briefings as the new defence team settles into their roles.

Insiders suggest that the President may soon unveil a new national security framework that aligns with his administration’s “Renewed Hope” agenda.

Meanwhile, reactions continue to trail the appointments across political and civil circles, with many Nigerians expressing optimism that the new service chiefs will bring fresh energy and professionalism to the nation’s armed forces.
