TroyHealth Pharmacy on Saturday 26 October 2025 opened its third outlet with drive-through innovation in Ibadan, Southwest of Nigeria.

The newest outlet of the pharmacy, situated on 57, Road1, Akobo Estate, Ajagboju, Ibadan, which was opened with fanfare on Saturday comes with a great innovation of drive-through shopping experience.

Customers who come in ride to the premises do not have to go through the rigours of parking, coming down to walk into the pharmacy, queuing to be attended to and coming out to walk back to their cars. They simply just make order as they drive in via the ‘Drive Thru Entrance’, and before they get to the exit point, they already have their purchases delivered to them.

The pharmacy is what could be regarded as a complete package in the sense that beyond sections for patients’ consultation and pharmaceutical products shopping, there are sections containing other stuff like beverages and household items. It’s more or less a mini hospital embedded supermarket.

Also, the pace of service delivery at the TroyHealth stands it out among peers. According to the Managing Director/CEO of the establishment, Pharm. Tunde Mumini Bakare, time frame to attend to every customer after consultation at the pharmacy is five minutes.

Bakare told newsmen during an interview at the sideline of the program that: “First and foremost, for every minute this place opens, there will be a licensed pharmacist to attend to customers. We will be opening for thirteen hours a day. So, we will have two full-time pharmacists running the place.

“That’s number one. Two, we ensure that all our products are sourced from genuine organisations- wholesalers or manufacturers so that whatever you buy here, you can rest assured that you are buying the right quality and not only that, we ensure that people get value for money. You get it at unbeatable prices.

“Every customer that walks through our door will have an unrivaled experience not only in terms of products, but also in terms of service.

“If you go in you will see that the environment is very ambient, it’s very conducive, well-ventilated and fully air conditioned.

“This is the third outlet we are opening. The fourth one will be opened in December at Ibafo, Ogun State.

“We have also put in place measures to ensure that the goods and services we give to our customers here are of good quality. We source our products either directly from the manufacturers or from licensed distributors or wholesalers. We also ensure that the products are kept in the right storage condition.”

He also informed the audience that the pharmacy does free home delivery. All a customer needs to do is reaching out to the pharmacy through either its telephone lines, email or any of its social media handles to place order, pay for the items ordered and it will be delivered to the customer’s doorstep free of transportation charge.

The pharmacy also has a QR code customers can scan to be directed to a dedicated WhatsApp line through which orders could be made with such items promptly delivered to them anywhere in Nigeria.

Members of the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria who were in attendance at the remarkable event confirmed that it was the first time a pharmacy would come with such a package in Nigeria.

According to Mr Kolawole Agboola, a roommate of Bakare back in their university days, “This is the first drive-through pharmacy and store in Nigeria. It’s trying to make experience of shopping easy for the customer such that he or she doesn’t have to come out of his or her vehicle. You pay somewhere, collect at the other end and you drive away like that. You know innovation is the key to progress in our lives.

“This idea of drive-through is the first of its kind in Nigeria. It’s a wonderful idea, and I commend him. I’ve been with TroyHealth right from when they started at a rented shop at Idi Ape, Ibadan until they opened the first outlet, the second and now the third.

“I’m so happy for them. They have kept improving to satisfy the customer. I congratulate them.”

Agboola

How did Bakare come up with such an idea? Agboola said: “You know, Mumini is somebody who is well travelled. Travelling is 50% of knowledge. If somebody travels all over the world, he would know a lot. For instance, if something is done in Ibadan, and somebody goes to Abeokuta, it can be something different there and he would notice that this thing is done differently here, I have to try it in Ibadan. And when he leaves Abeokuta, he goes to Abuja, maybe there is a better way of doing it. There is nothing that is good that cannot be better.

“So, what we are having here is a better way of shopping and I invite people in the environment here, people outside this place to come and see the wonder that TroyHealth is doing here. I’m so happy to be here.”

Another Pharmacist at the event, Ademola Oduniyi, proclaimed: “It’s a beautiful place to be. It’s the third pharmacist in town that Troy will be having. The name, Troy, is synonymous with quality. The practice here is ethical, highest level of ethical practices is what they operate. Pharmacists are fully on ground. The quality of their drugs is fantastic. It’s a place that you are sure of getting the best quality.”

Professor Rasak Adisa from the University of Ibadan, a friend and schoolmate of Pharm. Bakare commended TroyHealth for its high standard of practice.

He affirmed that a lot still need to be done to sanitise the Nigerian pharmaceutical market and urged Nigerians to imbibe the right culture of patronising professionals while seeking healthcare or buying healthcare products.

“As far as the Pharmacy profession is concerned in this country, I know there are a lot of things we still need to do, in terms of sanitising the market to ensure that it is free of fake and counterfeit drugs.

“Now, as clients I will advise that we should try as much as possible to patronize Pharmacy registered persons. If you buy a drug from a pharmacy, you can be sure of tracing the source of the drug to confirm that whatever you are getting is genuine which means when you get to a pharmacy premises you are free to ask to see the pharmacist. As part of the corporate responsibility of a pharmacy, they need to enlighten you. Even if you are not buying anything, you can ask questions from them. It’s their corporate duty to answer you.

“That’s one of the things we actually need to embrace as citizens of this country. As a lecturer- I’ve been teaching students for the pasts twenty-five years. I always tell them that as a pharmacist, present yourself as a professional. You are a professional because people in the community trust you. So, the ethics of professionalism have to be maintained.

“I’ve talked to the pharmacists here (at TroyHealth), I said you have to maintain professionalism skill. That’s the image of the profession. That’s what make people have confidence in whatever you are telling them. That’s what we need to embrace in this country. Though there are some bad eggs among us but once we maintain professional ethic, I think we will be able to address some of the challenges we have,” Professor Adisa said.

With the general notion, whether right or wrong, that the Nigerian business environment is turbulent and unfavourable, why did Bakare commit enormous resources to establish such an ambitious project in the country? His answer is simple: “We just felt our people deserve the best. That’s the main motivation.”
