The University of Lagos (UNILAG), Akoka, has announced a ban on two popular activities, skitmaking and content creation within its campus and hostels without prior approval.
In a statement signed by its Head of Communication, Adejoke Alaga-Ibraheem, the institution expressed concern over the growing trend of individuals using its premises for unapproved video recordings, including skits, vox pops, and film shoots.
“The attention of the University of Lagos Management has been drawn to the increasing use of the University premises, including hostels and other facilities, for shooting of films/videos (skits, vox pop, etc.) and cinematographic activities, without appropriate authorisation,” the statement said.
The university explained that the move became necessary to preserve its image, protect the academic environment, and maintain decorum on campus.
It added that anyone whether students, staff, or outsiders must obtain formal permission from the communications unit before embarking on any video project.
While acknowledging the creative value of such activities, UNILAG warned that all productions must adhere to its established procedures to ensure order and safety.
The institution urged members of the university community and the public to comply strictly with the new directive “in the interest of order, safety, and collective responsibility.”
