Crystal Palace produced a stunning performance at Anfield on Wednesday night, dismantling Liverpool 3-0 to book their place in the EFL Cup quarter-finals.
A brace from Ismaila Sarr and a late strike from Yeremy Pino sealed a memorable victory for Oliver Glasner’s side, while Liverpool endured a frustrating evening that ended with a red card for Amara Nallo.
Liverpool started brightly, dominating possession in the opening stages with quick, incisive passing. Federico Chiesa and Rio Ngumoha came close early on, but neither could find the finishing touch, with Palace goalkeeper Walter Benítez denying Chiesa from close range in the 28th minute.
Despite Liverpool’s early control, Palace grew into the game and capitalised on defensive lapses. In the 41st minute, Ismaila Sarr opened the scoring, pouncing on a loose ball in the penalty area and slotting home into the bottom corner.
The Senegalese winger doubled the lead four minutes later, finishing clinically after latching onto a through ball that left the Reds’ defence exposed.
Liverpool’s frustrations mounted in the second half. Captain Andrew Robertson and Chiesa were both booked for rash challenges, while young defender Amara Nallo was sent off in the 79th minute following a late tackle that left referee Craig Pawson with no hesitation in producing the red card.
With Liverpool down to ten men, Palace pressed their advantage. Yeremy Pino, who had been lively throughout, added a third in the 88th minute, a precise low strike into the right post after a well-worked move.
The Spaniard was later cautioned for a late tackle, but his earlier brilliance ensured Palace’s dominance was complete.
