Super Falcons forward, Gift Monday, is mourning the death of her father, Effiom Monday Akpan, who was recently laid to rest in a private ceremony, likely held in Akwa Ibom.
The Nigerian international confirmed the sad news on Sunday, November 2, through a post on her X (Twitter) page, where she also shared an emotional tribute to her late father.
In her message, Gift described her father as her first coach, biggest supporter, and source of strength and wisdom.
She said he taught her important life values that have helped her both on and off the football field.
She wrote:
“Losing my father, Mr. Effiom Monday Akpan, has been one of the hardest experiences of my life.
Even though I knew this day would come, nothing prepares you for the silence that follows when your greatest source of strength and encouragement is gone.
My dad was more than just a father — he was my foundation. His sacrifices, hard work, and quiet wisdom shaped the person I am today.”
