Nuno Espirito Santo got his first win as West Ham manager on Sunday after his team came from behind to defeat Newcastle 3–1 at the London Stadium.
Despite the victory, West Ham are still in the relegation zone. However, this was only their second Premier League win of the season, and they are now just three points behind 17th-placed Burnley, their next opponents.
Newcastle took an early lead through a fine goal from Jacob Murphy, but Lucas Paquetá equalised before an own goal from Sven Botman gave West Ham the lead before halftime.
In the second half, Newcastle manager Eddie Howe made several substitutions to improve his struggling side. Although Newcastle dominated possession, they failed to create real chances. West Ham’s Tomas Soucek sealed the win with a late goal.
Nuno, who became West Ham’s manager in late September after being sacked by Nottingham Forest, had been waiting for his first victory.

Referee Robert Jones initially awarded West Ham a penalty when Bowen appeared to be fouled by Malick Thiaw, but VAR overturned the decision after showing Thiaw had touched the ball first.
