“We are closing in on Sowore and others involved in activities intended to disrupt public peace. Sowore should surrender at the nearest police station or face arrest wherever he is found,” Jimoh warned.

The Lagos State Police Command has declared activist Omoyele Sowore wanted for allegedly planning to cause public unrest and block major roads in the state.

State Commissioner of Police, Olohundare Jimoh, made this known on Monday while briefing journalists at the Third Mainland Bridge. He said Sowore, leader of the “Take It Back Movement,” ignored earlier police warnings not to mobilise protests over the recent demolition of houses in Oworonshoki.

“We are closing in on Sowore and others involved in activities intended to disrupt public peace. Sowore should surrender at the nearest police station or face arrest wherever he is found,” Jimoh warned.

The police chief said intelligence reports indicated Sowore and his associates were planning demonstrations at key locations including the Third Mainland Bridge, Lekki Tollgate, and Freedom Park. He described the alleged plan as “criminal” and dangerous, noting it could disrupt traffic and endanger lives.

Jimoh added that 13 suspects linked to the planned protest had already been arrested, while Sowore reportedly fled. Investigations are ongoing to identify sponsors and collaborators.

Police officers have been deployed across major highways and bridges, with temporary roadblocks and diversions in place. “The Third Mainland Bridge was not designed to hold stationary weight. Any gathering on it could pose structural risks,” he said.

On the recent Oworonshoki demolitions, Jimoh said affected residents had been compensated and urged Lagosians to go about their normal activities without fear.

“We are not sleeping. We will apprehend, investigate, and prosecute anyone attempting to undermine public safety in Lagos. Freedom of expression must not turn into public nuisance or risk lives,” he said.

Sowore had earlier threatened to stage a protest over the demolitions, prompting the police to caution him against taking action.
