President Bola Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Policy Communication, Daniel Bwala, has said the United States cannot carry out any military operation in Nigeria without the Nigerian government’s approval.

Bwala stated this in an interview with the BBC World Service on Monday.
He explained that Nigeria is a sovereign nation, and any foreign involvement in its internal security matters must be based on mutual agreement and respect for its territorial integrity.

His comments followed U.S. President Donald Trump’s recent declaration of Nigeria as a “country of particular concern” over alleged persecution of Christians.

Trump also threatened to deploy the American military to combat terrorist groups he claimed were attacking Christians in Nigeria.

According to Bwala, “If it’s a joint operation with Nigeria, that’s acceptable.

But diplomatically, it is wrong to invade a sovereign country without collaboration especially one that remains a strategic partner in the fight against insecurity.

“Unilateral intervention only happens when there is proof that a government supports the crisis. That is certainly not the case in Nigeria,” he added.
