Popular Nigerian music executive and Mavin Records founder, Michael Collins Ajereh, better known as Don Jazzy, has revealed why he is still afraid of marriage despite his success, fame and influence in the entertainment industry.
The 42-year-old producer made the revelation during an interview on HabbyFX’s YouTube channel, where he spoke candidly about his past, fears, and the pressure that comes with relationships in the public eye.
According to Don Jazzy, his failed marriage in 2003 and the stories of messy divorces among celebrities have made him cautious about settling down again.
“There are good ones, there are bad ones. My parents were madly in love before my mom died. We see examples like that that make you believe in relationships,” he said.
“But when you also see breakups everywhere, especially on social media, people washing their dirty linen in public, it gives me fear.”
The music mogul also admitted that financial consequences of divorce play a major role in his hesitation.
“A man has to lose half of all that he has worked for in his life, especially those without a prenup. You see people suffer after divorce and it scares me. The money I have amassed is for my generation.”
Don Jazzy further explained that while he has dated after his divorce, he is currently single and waiting for “God’s time.”
“I’ve actually dated before. Currently, I’m single. Na fear, though God’s time is the best. I want the right person, but I’m not even sure if I am the right person for somebody’s daughter.”
Speaking on personal growth, he admitted he is still working on himself emotionally and spiritually:
“Am I disciplined enough to be with one person? I pray to God to help me become a better person. When I was young, I was a menace. I am getting older and wiser.”
The Mavin boss also shared insights into his daily life, revealing that he now works mostly indoors and delegates tasks to his team.
“I’m always indoors—either in my house, office, or studio. I delegate now. One person can’t do everything.”
On music, Don Jazzy praised several Nigerian stars and said he finds inspiration in sounds around him.
“I like Johnny Drille. He’s very talented. But Wizkid, Davido, Burna, 2Face, D’banj and Olamide have pushed the culture forward.”
