Islamic cleric and scholar, Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, has threatened to take legal action against Malcolm Emokiniovo Omirhobo, a Nigerian human rights lawyer.
The cleric, on his social media page on Thursday, asked Omirhobo to retract his words, stating that they are defamatory allegations that could lead to religious tension.
He demanded that Omirhobo issue an apology or face a lawsuit.
“Chief Malcolm Emokiniovo Omirhobo should retract his defamatory allegations against me (Sheikh Dr. Ahmad Abubakar Gumi) and tender an unreserved apology in another press release within 48 hours, otherwise he would be charged to a court of law for defamation and intent to stir religious crisis in Nigeria,” he wrote.
Omirhobo had earlier issued a statement titled “Terrorism Apology Is a Crime, Government Must Investigate and Prosecute Sheikh Ahmad Gumi,”
