The Recording Academy has announced nominations for the 2026 Grammy Awards, with Nigerian superstars Burna Boy, Davido, Ayra Starr, Omah Lay, and Wizkid earning multiple spots in key global categories.
The 68th Annual Grammy Awards are set to take place on February 1, 2026, at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles.
The event will honour music released between August 31, 2024, and August 30, 2025, marking another major milestone in global recognition for African music.
This year’s nominations introduced two new categories-Best Traditional Country Album and Best Album Cover, while Kendrick Lamar leads the overall nominations with nine nods.
Lady Gaga follows closely with seven nominations, including her fifth Album of the Year nomination for MAYHEM.
African artists made an impressive showing across the Global and African music categories, with five Nigerians and nine African acts recognised.
Burna Boy received two nominations-Best African Music Performance for his hit “Love” and Best Global Music Album for No Sign of Weakness, making him Africa’s most-nominated artist for 2026.
Apart from Burna Boy, other Nigerian stars include Davido, Ayra Starr, Wizkid, and Omah Lay, all of whom feature prominently in the Best African Music Performance category.
