A dramatic stoppage-time equaliser from Matthijs de Ligt rescued a point for Manchester United, who drew 2-2 with Tottenham Hotspur in a pulsating Premier League clash at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Saturday.

United looked on course for defeat after Richarlison’s 90th-minute header had seemingly won it for Spurs, but De Ligt’s emphatic finish deep into stoppage time ensured the spoils were shared after a thrilling late exchange.

The visitors had taken the lead in the 32nd minute when Bryan Mbeumo nodded home Amad Diallo’s cross from close range, capping off a dominant opening spell for United.

Tottenham, however, rallied after the break with waves of pressure that tested goalkeeper Senne Lammens, who produced a string of crucial saves.

Spurs eventually drew level in the 84th minute through Mathys Tel, who fired a stunning effort into the top corner after combining neatly with Destiny Udogie.

The hosts appeared to have completed their comeback when Richarlison powered in a superb header in the first minute of added time, sending the home fans into wild celebrations.

But the drama was far from over. In the 96th minute, United captain Bruno Fernandes delivered a precise corner that found De Ligt unmarked in the six-yard box.

The Dutch defender smashed the ball into the roof of the net, silencing the North London crowd and sealing a hard-fought draw for Ruben Amorim’s men.

The match, which saw five yellow cards and multiple injury stoppages, including one for Harry Maguire, was played in front of a lively 61,210 fans. Both sides had chances to win it, but poor finishing and inspired goalkeeping kept the score level.

The result leaves Tottenham frustrated after surrendering a late lead for the second time this season, while Manchester United will take relief from their late rescue in a game that tested their resilience.
