A 68-year-old British man was shot dead during a robbery in Tema on Friday, sparking a manhunt for the suspects.
Police say the victim was sitting with friends at a popular drinking spot opposite Community Nine cemetery when six young men on motorbikes arrived. Two of the assailants approached the group while another snatched the man’s mobile phone.
When the victim tried to recover his phone, one of the attackers fired, hitting him. He was rushed to Tema General Hospital but died shortly after. A 9mm spent shell was recovered at the scene.
The Tema Regional Police Command said the suspects fled on motorbikes and a full-scale operation is underway to track them down. Authorities are also working to notify the British Embassy of the incident.
“The Command assures the public that every effort is being made to arrest the suspects and bring them to justice,” the statement read.
