Sowore calls for Ned Nwoko’s prosecution over Regina Daniels’ allegations

Sowore and Ned Nwoko

Quick Read

The call comes after Nwoko’s estranged wife, Regina Daniels, claimed in a social media post on November 9 that she was only 17 years old when she was married to the senator. Sowore highlighted that under UK law, where Nwoko is a registered legal practitioner, any sexual activity involving a minor constitutes statutory rape.

Omoyele Sowore has demanded that lawmaker, Senator Ned Nwoko, be held accountable for alleged crimes against a minor and abuse of power.

The call comes after Nwoko’s wife, Regina Daniels, claimed in a social media post on November 9 that she was only 17 years old when she was married to the senator. Sowore highlighted that under UK law, where Nwoko is a registered legal practitioner, any sexual activity involving a minor constitutes statutory rape.

Sowore described the allegations as serious, citing claims that Nwoko introduced Daniels to hard drugs while she was underage and repeatedly forced himself on her. He said the allegations should trigger urgent investigation and prosecution.

He added that it is unacceptable for Nwoko to continue practicing law in the United Kingdom while facing these accusations. Sowore called on the Law Society of England and Wales and the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) to commence disciplinary proceedings before the Independent Solicitors Disciplinary Tribunal (SDT) to determine Nwoko’s fitness to practice.

Sowore further warned against any attempts by Nwoko to exploit his political influence, wealth, or the Nigerian Police Force to suppress victims, pervert justice, or violate human rights, whether in Nigeria or abroad.

“We will not allow Ned Nwoko to continue using the now disgraced Nigeria Police Force, his political influence, or illicit wealth to suppress victims, pervert justice, and trample on human rights in Nigeria or anywhere else in the world,” Sowore said.

The activist’s statement adds renewed pressure on authorities and professional bodies to act swiftly on the allegations, which have already ignited public debate over child rights and accountability among high-profile Nigerians.
