Abdulmumin Jibrin, the lawmaker representing Kiru/Bebeji Federal Constituency of Kano State in the House of Representatives has returned to the All Progressives Congress, APC alongside a huge number of his supporters.
Jibrin dumped the APC in May 2022 to join the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) where he contested and won the House of Representatives seat.
However, he was suspended about two months ago over alleged anti-party activities and non payment of membership dues by the NNPP.
His suspension followed an interview he granted to the Hausa Service of BBC, expressing his support for the re-election of President Bola Tinubu in 2027.
He had in reaction, said he accepted his expulsion from the NNPP.
However, Jibrin speaking to a large crowd of his supporters in his hometown, Kofa in Bebeji Local Government Area of Kano State, on Sunday declared that he has returned to the APC.
He renounced his membership in the NNPP and the Kwankwasiyya Movement led by the former Kano State Governor, Dr Rabiu Kwankwaso.
He also reiterated his support for reelection of President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 election.
Jibrin, in a short post of his official Facebook page and a statement he released on Monday also gave a report on the political gathering and the resolve of his supporters to unanimously abandon the NNPP and the Kwankwasiyya Movement to align with the ruling APC at the federal level.
“Today, in a show of solidarity, I was warmly received by thousands of my constituents in my hometown of Kofa, Bebeji, Kano,” Jibrin wrote.
“The gathering resolved to leave the NNPP/Kwankwasiyya, join the APC, and endorse President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for a second term in office.
He also revealed that a large number of clerics in his constituency have been praying for the president.
From the beginning, almost 2,000 scholars from my constituency have prayed special prayers for the President and sought peace, development, and progress for Kiru/Bebeji, Kano, and Nigeria altogether.”
While expressing appreciation for the support he got while in NNPP, Jibrin urged his supporters to join him in his “new journey” back to the APC.
He also urged them to maintain peaceful relations with those who decide to remain in the NNPP.
