Quick Read

This incident happened just weeks after the NPFL fined Kano Pillars ₦9.5 million for a similar case of crowd violence during their home game against Shooting Stars.

The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) has fined Katsina United a total of ₦9 million and ordered them to play all their remaining home matches in Jos without fans.

The punishment followed violent incidents during their 1–1 draw with Barau FC on Saturday.

According to a statement issued on Sunday, the league said Katsina United broke several rules, including not providing enough security and failing to control their supporters.

It was reported that some fans entered restricted areas and threw harmful objects onto the pitch, injuring some Barau FC players.

“The club failed to ensure proper behaviour from their supporters, which led to harassment of Barau FC players and match officials,” the NPFL said.

The league imposed a ₦3 million fine for the fans’ misconduct and damage to the league’s image, another ₦2 million for poor security, and ₦4 million to cover the cost of medical treatment for injured players and damage to Barau FC’s buses.

This brings the total fine to ₦9 million.
The NPFL also ordered Katsina United to play all remaining home games at the New Jos Stadium without spectators.

The club has 48 hours to appeal the decision.
Reports revealed that Barau FC player Nana Abraham suffered a neck injury after being attacked by fans when his team equalised in the 69th minute.

The situation caused chaos, and officials had to step in to restore order before the match ended 1–1.

However, Katsina United denied the reports, calling them “false and misleading.” The club’s media director, Nasir Gide, claimed security officials maintained order throughout the game and that no supporter entered the pitch.

He added that the club would take legal action against any media outlet spreading what it called “untrue stories.”

This incident happened just weeks after the NPFL fined Kano Pillars ₦9.5 million for a similar case of crowd violence during their home game against Shooting Stars.
