US Shutdown: Govt to reopen, but what It means…

The US federal government is set to reopen temporarily if a short-term funding bill currently before the Senate is approved and signed by President Donald Trump.

The measure would fund the government for about 80 days, giving lawmakers more time to negotiate a longer-term spending agreement. However, the deal is temporary, and Congress will face the challenge of reaching a new funding arrangement by the end of January.

Senate Majority Leader John Thune (Republican) expressed optimism about the plan, noting that eight Democrats joined Republicans in the initial vote. “The end is in sight,” Thune said, urging senators not to delay the final passage.

The proposal also includes funding for critical programmes such as SNAP and WIC, ensuring food assistance continues for millions of Americans affected by the shutdown.

While some lawmakers push for a permanent solution to avoid recurring closures, the temporary plan is seen as a necessary step to prevent further disruptions to daily life, including flight delays, federal worker furloughs, and interruptions to essential services.
