A video shared by Iwobi recently went viral, showing what appeared to be a substandard hotel. The clip sparked outrage among fans, who described the facility as “unfit” for national players and compared it to a school hostel.

Super Eagles midfielder Alex Iwobi has denied claims that he criticised the team’s lodging in Morocco ahead of Nigeria’s 2026 World Cup qualifying playoff match.

A video shared by Iwobi recently went viral, showing what appeared to be a substandard hotel. The clip sparked outrage among fans, who described the facility as “unfit” for national players and compared it to a school hostel.

Reacting to the backlash, Iwobi said his post was misunderstood.

“I didn’t say anything; I just showed the video,” the Fulham star explained, adding that he never intended to insult anyone.

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) later issued a statement clarifying that the team is staying at RIVE Hotel in Rabat. According to the NFF, the video circulating online showed an old building visible from the team’s window, not their actual accommodation.

“RIVE was chosen because of its proximity to the team’s training ground and the match venue,” the federation said.

The Super Eagles are now focused on preparing for their crucial qualifier against Morocco, while the incident highlights how quickly social media content can stir public debate.
