The 30-year-old footballer confronted the intruders with a kitchen knife as they attempted to break into his house around 7 p.m. on Saturday, barely an hour before Chelsea’s Premier League clash with Wolves at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea forward Raheem Sterling was reportedly attacked at his Surrey home after masked burglars stormed in while his young children were inside, in what police have described as a “terrifying break-in.”

According to Daily Mail Sport, the 30-year-old footballer confronted the intruders with a kitchen knife as they attempted to break into his house around 7 p.m. on Saturday, barely an hour before Chelsea’s Premier League clash with Wolves at Stamford Bridge.

Sterling, who was home with his sons Thiago, eight, and Thai Cruz, six, managed to protect his family from harm, though the ordeal left them shaken. Sources close to the winger revealed the burglars appeared startled to find anyone home and fled without stealing valuables.

A spokesperson for Sterling confirmed the incident, saying:

“We can confirm that Raheem Sterling was the victim of a home break-in this weekend. He and his children were present at the time. Whilst the ultimate violation of privacy and safety, we are thankful to be able to confirm that he and his loved ones are all safe.”

Thames Valley Police also confirmed they are investigating the attack and have appealed for information from residents who may have seen “anyone acting suspiciously” in the area.

Chelsea are said to be offering full support to the player.

This isn’t the first time Sterling’s home has been targeted. In 2022, the England international left the World Cup camp in Qatar after his property was raided, with jewellery worth an estimated £300,000 stolen.

Authorities have since linked that incident to a group of Albanian nationals accused of over 30 high-end burglaries across southern England.
