The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has insisted that its 2025 national convention will still take place this weekend in Ibadan, even though a court has ordered it to stop the event.

PDP National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, said the convention has not been postponed and will hold on Saturday, November 15, and Sunday, November 16. He accused the ruling APC of spreading false information to confuse the public and disrupt the convention.

He added that the party is working hard to ensure everything goes smoothly and thanked Nigerians for their support as delegates and officials arrive in Ibadan.

Former Ekiti State Governor, Ayo Fayose, said the PDP’s main problem is its leadership. He claimed the party “has decayed from the head” and said he had repeatedly warned that the PDP was in serious trouble.

Fayose explained that although he supports President Tinubu as a Yoruba man, he has never planned to leave the PDP.

He also noted that he earlier predicted that some PDP governors would defect, and now the governors of Bayelsa, Enugu, and Taraba have left.

He warned that the governor of Plateau and another yet-to-be-named governor may soon leave as well.

Eddy Olafeso, a former PDP National Vice Chairman, said those trying to block the convention want to weaken the opposition and push Nigeria toward a one-party system.

He described the court order stopping the event as “judicial rascality” and said the party will not allow itself to be destroyed.

Olafeso expressed confidence that the convention will still hold as planned and insisted that truth and justice will prevail.
