How I handle pressure – Osimhen
Quick Read
“Sometimes I score the goal no one expects, and sometimes I miss the one people think I’ll score. But that doesn’t change my mentality,” he said.
Nigeria’s star striker, Victor Osimhen, says staying calm under pressure is a skill he has mastered, even on nights when the goals don’t come easily.
The Super Eagles forward, who bagged a brace in Nigeria’s 4-1 extra-time win over Gabon, said criticism over missed chances does not shake his confidence.
In a video shared on Thursday by sports journalist @iamcalisports, Osimhen admitted that being a top striker comes with scrutiny but added that he has learned to keep his head steady.
“Sometimes I score the goal no one expects, and sometimes I miss the one people think I’ll score. But that doesn’t change my mentality,” he said.
Osimhen had missed two big chances in the second half but redeemed himself in extra time with a powerful finish. He said correcting mistakes quickly is part of his mindset.
“At first, I told them I was sorry. I told them I would correct it in extra time — and I’m happy I did,” he said.
The Al Nassr striker praised his teammates for their support in difficult moments.
“Kudos to the guys who gave me the assists. I’m happy with the mentality of the team — all of us,” he added.
Osimhen also thanked fans across the world for standing by the Super Eagles.
“Thank you to the many Super Eagles fans all over the world who have gone through it all with us. This win is also for them,” he said.
Looking ahead to the World Cup playoffs final, Osimhen admitted the next round will be tough but vowed that the team will give everything.
“The next round won’t be easy. We will give everything to make sure we go to the final,” he assured.
Osimhen’s two extra-time goals, along with strikes from Akor Adams and Chidera Ejuke, sealed Nigeria’s emphatic 4-1 win over Gabon at Stade Mohammed V in Rabat, Morocco.
