Olamide responds to backlash after declaring Wizkid the greatest Afrobeats artiste 

Olamide has reacted to the wave of backlash trailing his recent comment describing Wizkid as the greatest Afrobeats artiste of all time, a remark he made while addressing students during an appearance at the York University earlier in the week.

The statement, which instantly sparked heated debates across social media, drew strong reactions from fans of other Afrobeats heavyweights, including Davido and Burna Boy, who accused the rapper of taking sides in a long-running rivalry.

Responding in a new post on Thursday, Olamide said the outrage was unnecessary, stressing that his words were never intended to downplay or disrespect any artiste’s success.

“Honestly, this whole lengthy three-way conversation is whatever,” he wrote. “You can’t diminish anyone’s greatness, whether they’re A-list, B-list, or anything else. Everyone is free to believe what they want and support whoever they choose. There’s plenty of room in the sky for everybody.”

He added that the biggest names in the genre, Burna Boy, Davido, and Wizkid are too focused and accomplished to be offended by someone else’s opinion.

“Burna, David, and Wiz aren’t narrow-minded enough to get upset because of one person’s perspective. That’s part of why they are where they are today.”
