World Cup Playoffs: CAF clears Ndidi to play against DRC on Sunday

Quick Read

This confirmation is a major boost for the Nigerian team, as Ndidi’s experience and midfield presence will be crucial in the must-win encounter.

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has confirmed that Super Eagles midfielder Wilfred Ndidi is fully eligible to feature in Sunday’s all-important 2026 World Cup playoff clash against the Democratic Republic of Congo, PM News has gathered.

There had been uncertainty over Ndidi’s availability due to the yellow cards he accumulated during the World Cup qualifying series.

However, CAF has now clarified that cautions picked up during the qualifiers do not carry into the playoff round. Only players with officially confirmed suspensions are barred from participating.

This confirmation is a major boost for the Nigerian team, as Ndidi’s experience and midfield presence will be crucial in the must-win encounter.

The Super Eagles face DR Congo on Sunday with a World Cup ticket on the line, and head coach Eric Chelle will now have one of his most reliable midfield anchors available for selection.
