Lawal Pedro, SAN, the Lagos State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, has reacted to reports of Baba Ijesha being freed and cleared by the court of appeal.
While speaking to Newsmen on Sunday, Pedro explained that such reports are misleading and false. He added that no such clearance occurred at any stage of the judicial process.
“On June 28, 2024, the Court of Appeal, Lagos Division, delivered judgment on his appeal. While the court set aside convictions relating to alleged offences from 2013–2014, it upheld the conviction and sentence for the 2021 sexual assault charges. Mr. Olanrewaju James was not cleared of the offences of sexual assault and indecent treatment of a child,” Pedro stated.
He also warned the public against circulating such claims, explaining that Baba Ijesha’s release was because he had completed his full term in prison.
Pedro also warned that the office of the Attorney-General can initiate criminal proceedings for publication of false news, warning the public against spreading such mis-information.
