The Minister of State for Works, Barr. Mohammed Goronyo, said the federal government wants to strengthen its relationship with China to improve Nigeria’s road infrastructure and train engineers to handle modern challenges.
He made this statement during a meeting with a high-level delegation from CGGC Global Plc in Abuja.
According to a statement by the Ministry’s Director of Press and Public Relations, Mohammed Ahmed, the minister highlighted the government’s commitment to improving roads through better technical skills, modern engineering practices, and global best practices.
Goronyo suggested key areas for collaboration, including:
Training Nigerian engineers in China
Providing modern road construction and maintenance equipment
Transferring advanced road technologies for local adaptation and long-term sustainability
Mr. He Yongjun, Vice President of CGGC, said the company is interested in supporting Nigeria’s infrastructure development.
He requested direct access to projects but expressed concerns about working through the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) framework, which is the officially approved process for government contracts.
The Chinese delegation was received by the Minister of State, who was assisted by senior officials of the Ministry and the Managing Director of the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA), Engr. Dr. Chukwuemeka Agbasi.
The Chinese team included Mr. He Yongjun, Mr. Song Yunwu (Security Director), Ms. Tian Yimeng (Director, Africa Marketing Department), Mr. Peng Changbing (Director, Project Management Department), and other senior officials.
