The Minority Caucus in the House of Representatives has strongly condemned the early-morning attack on Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School, Maga, in Danko/Wasagu Local Government Area of Kebbi State, which resulted in the abduction of about 25 students and the killing of the Vice Principal by armed bandits.
The Caucus expressed its position in a statement jointly issued and signed by its leaders: Rep. O. K. Chinda, Minority Leader; Rt. Hon. (Dr.) Ali Isa J. C., Minority Whip; Rt. Hon. Aliyu Madaki, Deputy Minority Leader; and Rt. Hon. George Ozodinobi, Deputy Minority Whip.
According to the statement:
“The Caucus is extremely saddened and heartbroken that innocent schoolgirls, who are eager to acquire education and contribute meaningfully to society, were kidnapped by groups of social misfits, vicious renegades, and irascible outlaws.
“This unfortunate incident is a painful reminder of the June 17, 2021 abduction of about 80 students and the killing of five teachers at the Federal Government College, Birnin Yauri, also in Kebbi State.
“Given the severity of this latest attack and its psychological, health, social, and security implications for the abducted students, their families, fellow students, teachers, and the entire education sector in Kebbi State, the Caucus calls on the Federal Government and the Kebbi State Government to take decisive and urgent action to ensure the immediate release of the schoolgirls.
“We also call on the Nigerian Armed Forces and all relevant security agencies to work collaboratively and deploy all necessary measures to safely rescue the abducted students and bring the perpetrators to justice.
“The Caucus is further alarmed by the rising cases of insecurity across the country. Just yesterday, terrorists launched violent attacks on Eruku, Kwara State, killing several people and abducting many others.
“In recent months, there have been recurring incidents of killings, abductions, violent attacks, and other forms of insecurity in Zamfara, Kogi, Kano, Benue, Plateau, and several other parts of the country.
“As a responsible and responsive group of lawmakers, the Minority Caucus pledges to continue pursuing necessary legislative interventions aimed at finding realistic and lasting solutions to these disturbing developments.”
