Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State has paid a condolence visit to the Awolowo Family to commiserate with them over the death of Mr. Segun Awolowo Jr.

Abiodun and his entourage of Ogun government cabinet members were received by the widow of the deceased, his children, his elderly mother, Hajia Abba Folawiyo, along other members of the Awolowo family.

Abiodun, who revealed information about the condolence visit via his verified X handle on Sunday, described the loss as both personal and national.

He said the atmosphere at the deceased family home was deeply emotional, reflecting the magnitude of the loss felt by all who knew Awolowo.

He described the late Segun Awolowo Jr. as “a fine gentleman—intelligent, warm, respectful, and effortlessly gracious.”

He added that his death has left a profound void.

“We received the news of his passing with heavy hearts. To us, this is not only a national loss but a personal one. We will always cherish the memories we shared with him,” the governor said.

He extended his condolences to Awolowo’s wife, children, the entire Awolowo family, and all who mourn him, praying for the repose of his soul and for God’s comfort upon those he left behind.

Segun Awolowo, the first grandson of the late sage and former Premier of the Western Region, Chief Obafemi Awolowo and a former Executive Director of the Nigerian Export Promotion Council, died on Thursday at the age of 62.
