Quick Read
Atiku arrived the registration venue to a rousing welcome from supporters who sang, drummed and waved placards bearing his image. He acknowledged the crowd from his vehicle before receiving his ADC membership card.
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar on Monday formally registered as a member of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Adamawa State, ending months of speculation over his next political move.
Atiku arrived the registration venue to a rousing welcome from supporters who sang, drummed and waved placards bearing his image. He acknowledged the crowd from his vehicle before receiving his ADC membership card.
His aide, Abdul Rasheeth, confirmed the development earlier in a statement, saying the former vice president had concluded his move after meeting with party stakeholders over the weekend.
Shortly after completing his registration, Atiku posted on X, “It’s official. – AA.”
The move moves Atiku’s place in the coalition party he endorsed in July as a platform for opposition leaders, including Peter Obi and Babachir Lawal to challenge President Bola Tinubu in 2027.
Until now, Atiku and several other opposition figures had held back from formally joining the ADC.
His entry is expected to boost the party’s profile and shape the emerging opposition alliance ahead of the next general elections.
