Against the background of current security challenges in parts of the country, the Kogi State Police Command has debunked social media reports about a possible terrorists attack in Kogi East senatorial district.
The rebuttal was contained in a statement in Lokoja on Monday by the command’s spokesperson, William Ovye Aya.
He said the report is unverifiable and does not constitute any elements of truth.
While assuring the public that the command is taking the report very seriously, Kogi Commissioner of Police, CP Naziru Bello Kankarofi, said measures are in place to ensure the safety of lives and property in the State.
CP Kankarofi said he has ordered deployment of tactical teams, including Police Mobile Force, counter terrorism, quick response and intelligence units, to strategic locations across Kogi state.
He also released an emergency number: 07038329084 for intelligence sharing and report of suspicious movements.
“Additional security assets have also been deployed to carry out operations and meet any unforeseen situations in critical areas,” he assured.
He urged the public to remain calm and verify information through official sources before sharing while noting that false claims can cause unnecessary panic.
“We appeal to everyone to work together with the police and other security agencies to keep the state safe. If you notice anything suspicious, please report without hesitation. Security is a shared responsibility.”
