Ukraine has agreed to a peace plan brokered by U.S. President Donald Trump to end its war with Russia, a U.S. official told the Daily Mail on Tuesday.
“They’ve agreed to the peace deal,” the official said. “There are some minor details to be sorted out, but they have agreed.”
The revised plan now has 19 points, down from the original 28. It no longer guarantees amnesty for war crimes and limits Ukraine’s army to 800,000 personnel. The deal leans in Kyiv’s favour, but Russia is expected to reject it.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed ongoing talks with Washington, posting on X: “I am grateful for all of America’s efforts and personally for President Trump’s efforts.” Zelenskyy is expected to travel to the U.S. soon to meet with Trump and finalize the agreement.
The announcement comes amid fresh attacks by Russia. Missile and drone strikes hit Kyiv and other regions overnight, killing civilians and destroying infrastructure. Russia reportedly downed 249 Ukrainian drones in response. The violence shows the fragile nature of the deal and the continuing dangers on the ground.
