Nigerian award-winning singer, Temilade Openiyi, popularly known as Tems, has revealed the career path she would have chosen if music had not worked out for her.
During an interactive session with fans on X on Tuesday, the Grammy-winning artiste shared that she might have ended up in the classroom or the financial sector.
A curious fan had asked: “If music didn’t work, what else do you think you would be doing today?”
Responding, Tems wrote: “I might have been an accountant or a mathematics teacher.”
Tems, who has become one of Africa’s most influential global music exports, previously disclosed that she resigned from her job as a digital marketer in January 2018 to pursue music full-time.
She released her debut single, ‘Mr Rebel’, in July 2018, earning early recognition. Her international breakthrough, however, came after her feature on Wizkid’s hit track, ‘Essence’ in 2020. The song soared to global acclaim, peaking at No. 9 on the Billboard Hot 100 following the remix featuring Justin Bieber.
