Lady shot dead as gunmen rain bullets on Ngige’s convoy in Anambra

A lady was shot dead as the convoy of former Anambra governor, Chris Ngige came under heavy gunfire on the Nkpor-Nnobi Road, Idemili North Local Government Area of the stat on Wednesday.
It was learnt that Ngige who was also a former minister of Labour and Employment was not in the convoy at the time the attack by the gunmen who dressed in military uniform.
However, a policeman in the pilot car was shot and his gun and uniform were taken away by the gunmen.
However, no policeman s was killed in the incident though the vehicles in the convoy were riddled with bullets.
Anambra Police Command confirmed the incident.
The spokesperson for the police command, SP Ikenga Tochukwu, said a coordinated manhunt has been initiated to apprehend the gunmen.
“Preliminary information indicates that the officers in the convoy are attached to Sen. Chris Ngige, former Governor of Anambra State and former Minister of Labour and Employment.
“The recovered vehicle has been secured and taken into police custody for further investigation, as operatives intensify a coordinated state-wide manhunt for the fleeing armed hoodlums,” Tochukwu said.
The yet-to-be identified lady who was shot dead was said to be recording the incident when he was fatally shot by the gunmen.
Also, a shop owner who went to see what was happing after hearing the gunshots was also shot.
Though he lost a lot of blood he survied the incident and there are indications that he will be operated upon remove the bullets.
Our source stated that the pilot car was riddled with bullets, adding however that no policeman was killed.
The escort leader who was shot has been operated upon and is expected to make full recovery, it was further gathered. The shop owner was lucky as the bullets didn’t lodge in his spine.
Fred Chukwuelobe who served Ngige as the Chief Press Secretary (CPS) confirmed the attack on his former boss.
Chukwuelobe equally wrote; “I just got off the phone with His Excellency and he confirmed the development, promising to do all he can to ensure that those injured receive adequate treatment.
He also commiserate with the family of the unfortunate lady who was killed while videoing the scene.
