Legendary Islamic scholar Sheikh Dahiru to be buried Friday

The funeral prayer for the highly respected Islamic scholar, Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi, who passed away on Thursday, has been scheduled for Friday, November 28, 2025.

The prayer, known as Janaza, will take place at his residence in Kofar Gombe, located in the heart of Bauchi metropolis.

The announcement was made on Thursday by one of his close followers, M. Daha Azhary Bauchi, who explained that preparations were already underway to honour the late scholar according to Islamic tradition.

He noted that students, followers, and well-wishers are expected to gather in Bauchi to pay their final respects.
Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi died at the age of 98 after a period of illness.

His death marks the end of a long, remarkable life dedicated to Islamic scholarship, teaching, and spiritual leadership.

Born on June 29, 1927 (Al-Muharram 2, 1346 A.H.) in Nafada—an area that is now part of Gombe State—he grew from a young Qur’anic student into one of the most influential voices in the Tijjaniyya Islamic movement.

Over the decades, he built a reputation that extended beyond Nigeria, earning respect across West Africa and the wider Muslim world.

Throughout his life, Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi was known for his deep knowledge of the Qur’an, his commitment to teaching, and his role in guiding thousands of followers.

Many communities benefitted from his preaching, mentorship, and efforts to promote peace, moral discipline, and religious education.

His passing is considered a great loss to the Muslim community, especially to his students and the Tijjaniyya faithful, who regarded him as a pillar of wisdom and spiritual direction.

He will be laid to rest on Friday, following the funeral prayer at his home.
