Liverpool have insisted that head coach Arne Slot still has the backing of the club’s hierarchy despite the champions’ alarming dip in form that has seen them lose nine of their last 12 games in all competitions.

Liverpool have insisted that head coach Arne Slot still has the backing of the club’s hierarchy despite the champions’ alarming dip in form that has seen them lose nine of their last 12 games in all competitions.

The pressure mounted further on Wednesday night after a 4-1 home defeat to PSV Eindhoven, coming just days after a 3-0 loss to Nottingham Forest at Anfield. Many supporters voiced their frustration, with visible empty seats and boos at full-time. PSV fans, rivals of Slot’s former club Feyenoord, also taunted him throughout the game.

However, sources close to Liverpool and to Slot told Daily Mail Sport that the Dutchman’s job is safe for now, and the club has not reviewed his position following the latest defeat.

Slot will speak to the media today (Thursday) at 3pm and is expected to face more questions about his future. Players and staff are scheduled to have Friday off, with recovery work planned for Thursday, followed by Saturday training ahead of Sunday’s trip to West Ham.

The weekend clash has now become a crucial fixture, especially as West Ham, under Nuno Espírito Santo are unbeaten in their last three matches.

Speaking after the PSV loss, Slot insisted he still feels supported by the club’s leadership.

“I am feeling safe,” he said. “I am OK, I have got a lot of support from above. It would be nice to turn it around and get a victory, of course, but if you are working as a coach and not doing well then it is normal that questions are asked.”

He added that while talks have taken place, they are not emergency meetings.

“I have had conversations but not in the sense that they tell me every single minute, ‘We support you, we support you, we support you’. We talk a lot if we are winning last season and if we are losing, and then they are helpful to me and to the team.
“We do have those conversations but they do not call me every single minute to tell me that they still trust me, but we do have the normal conversations and in those I feel the trust.”
